80-year-old driver charged with stunt driving

Saturday morning Hamilton police charged an 80-year-old women with Stunt Driving.

The woman was stopped at about 11:50 a.m. Saturday at a speed enforcement area

Late Saturday morning, Hamilton police charged an 80-year-old woman with stunt driving.

Police say she was travelling 113km/h in a 60 km/h zone in the area of Burlington Street Eastand Ottawa StreetNorth.

The woman was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee and was pulled over at about 11:50 a.m. at a speed enforcement area.

The driver said she didn't know she was speeding, police say.

Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning said in cases of stunt driving, the car towed and the driver's license suspended for seven days. The driver is alsoserved a summons to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.

Stunt driving charges are laid when a motor vehicle is travelling at 50 km/h or more above the posted speed limit.

In June, an 85-year-old woman was charged with stunt driving after a pedestrian and her dog were struck and killed by a vehicle in Vaughan, Ont.

Ontario driving laws state that residents need to renewed licences every two years after their 80th birthday.
