Hamiltons development boom continued again this year, with its building permits surpassing $1 billion for the fourth time in five years.

As of this week, the city saw more than $1 billion worth of construction in 2014, said Ed VanderWindt, Hamiltons chief building official, in a media release Wednesday.

Thats about the same as last year, when the city saw $1 billion in building permits. It broke records in 2012 with $1.5 billion in permits.

These building permits are not all attributable to one sector there are great numbers in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional categories, said Neil Everson, director of economic development, in the release.

The permits dont just represent new business, he said. Many are the expansion of local companies.

The city will release the final total for 2014 building statistics in January.
