Hamilton close to hitting $1 billion in building permits

City of Hamilton building and planning staff are checking every day for the moment when the building permits issued so far this year will tip over into the billion-dollar category, said city spokeswoman Ann Lamanes.

It'd be the fifth time in six years that threshold has been crossed.

The $978.9 million worth of buildingpermits issued in the first10 months of 2015 mark the second strongest January-to-October period for building permit activity in the past five years.

In 2012, nearly $1.3 billion in permits wereissued by the end of October.
