Hamilton police make arrest in first traffic fatality of 2013

A 55-year-old Hamilton woman was killed in the Jan. 17 accident on Paling Ave. near Britannia Ave.

Hamilton police have made an arrest in the Jan. 17 traffic collision that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old Hamilton woman, the first traffic fatality in the city in 2013.

Around 3:15 p.m. on the Jan. 17, a vehicle was travelling southbound on Paling Ave.near Britannia Ave. when it collided with the passenger side of a Pontiac Sunfire that was travelling westbound. The car then skidded onto the front lawn of a house in the southwest corner of the intersection.

The55-year-old Hamilton woman in the Sunfire was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle and other victimswere transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Following an investigation, police have arrested a 27-year-old Hamilton man and charged him with careless driving, disobeying astop sign and driving while under suspension.
