Remembrance Day service brings everyone into their own thoughts

Some have parents who are veterans. Some have children who are. Some, like Mayor Fred Eisenberger, come from countries liberated by the military.

Whichever it was, everyone had their own quiet thoughts on Sunday during the city's 97th annual Remembrance Day parade and memorial service.

Eisenberger hails from the Netherlands, which Allied forces liberated during the Second World War. He thought about that as he stood on the viewing platform watching the parade move from the John Weir Foote Armouries to the cenotaph at Gore Park.

"Everyone has their own thought of what it all means," he said.

The Hamilton veterans committee held the weekend event. There will be services on Remembrance Day on Wednesday too. The city also holds a weekend events so more people can attend. There were also events in Glanbrook and west Hamilton on Sunday.
