Man accused in Hess stabbing released on bail

Raleigh Stubbs, the man accused of first degree murder in a Hess Village stabbing in mid-September was released on bail Thursday afternoon from a Hamilton courtroom.

18-year old David Periera was killed in the September incident

The man accused of firstdegree murderin a Hess Village stabbing in mid-September was released on bail Thursday afternoon after a hearing ina Hamilton courtroom.

Raleigh Stubbs, 49, is accused in the death of 18-year-old David Periera.

Periera was stabbed in a TimHortonsparking lot on King St. W near Hess Village on a September Sunday at 2:30 a.m. The man was transported to hospital where he later died.Stubbswas arrested at the scene.

Thursday, as Stubbs was escorted into the courtroom, he winked and smiled at three people--his sister and two friends-- sitting directly behind. He looks good, eh? said Stubbs sister Gina March.

March declined to comment outside the courtroom.

Stubbswas wearing a blue collared dress shirt, had a neatly trimmed beard and short hair.

During the hearing, he lookedat the clock once, and then down at his feet for about 20 seconds. It wasone of the only times he movedhis head.
