The update says the student is expecting the results of their test "in the coming days."

It adds the student lives outside of Hamilton and sought medical attention after visiting Italy, where the number ofconfirmed casesof the coronavirus has risen to 888, the latest data shows, making it the worst affected country in Europe.

Health Canada has confirmed 16cases of the coronavirus so far, with seven inBritish Columbia, eight inOntarioand one inQuebec.

McMaster says it "applauds" the student's "proactive response" by seeking medical care and alerting the university to their situation on Friday.

"People need to monitor their health, especially if they have travelled to affected areas," saidLisa Morine, McMaster's director of health, safety and risk management in the release.

"We also can't over-emphasize how important it is that people appropriately wash their hands to help keep themselves healthy. If you are feeling unwell, stay home and take care of yourself."
