10 big movies shot in Hamilton

Hamilton streets will be teeming with film crews in the next few weeks,with four movies being shot in the city.

Crews are working on I'll Follow You Down, Fir Crazy and Christmas Song in Hamilton. An episode of Murdoch Mysteries is also being filmed here.

But these are far from the only shoots that have happened in the city. There's been a flurry of activity in the last few years.

Here's a look at ten of the most notable films shot in Hamiltonnot always the best, and sometimes the most infamous.

10. Death to Smoochy (2002)

This dark comedy stars Robin Williams as a disgraced children's entertainer and Ed Norton as his successor, the Barney knock-off Smoochy.

It delves into the seedy underbelly of children's entertaining, showcasing firefights in dinosaur costumes and the Irish mafia.

9. Max Payne (2008)

This action flick starring Mark Wahlberg is based upon the video game of the same name.

Though the third installment of the game has been received well, the film is another story.

It was critically panned and garnered Wahlberg a Razzie nod for worst actor.

8. Detroit Rock City (1999)

This cult classic is about four teenagers trying to finagle their way into a Kiss concert.

More than anything else, the film is an ode to the 1970's and worthwhile reasons to skip school.

7. Bulletproof Monk (2003)

Starring Chow Yun-Fat, Bullproof Monk is one of the biggest martial arts movies shot in the city.

It did not do well on release, and was largely lambasted for its writing and direction style.

6. Silent Hill (2006)

This horror movie shot inHamilton isbased on the Konami video games of the same name.

It'svisually strikingand did reasonably well at the box office, grossing $97 million worldwide. It was also nominated for a Director's Guild of Canada Award for sound editing.

5. Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

This zombie film starring Milla Jovovich is the second in four movies based on the best sellingvideo games from Capcom.

It did very well, and grossed over $129 million worldwide.

4. Glitter (2001)

Glitter is considered by many critics to be one of the worst films of all time.

It starsMariah Carey andwas nominated for six Razzie awards, including worst actress, worst director, worst picture, worst screen couple, worst screenplay and worst supporting actor.

3. The Incredible Hulk (2008)

The second Ed Norton film on this list has him playing scientist Bruce Banner, who also occasionally turns into a giant green monster.

Just one in a string of successful films based on Marvel Comics characters, it grossed over $263 million worldwide.

2. X-Men (2000)

The first success story for Marvel Comics was released in 2000, and was the catalyst for lots of comic book movies to comefrom Spider-Man to the Avengers.

It won 11 awards, including a Saturn award for best actor and best director.

1.Cinderella Man (2005)

This film stars Russell Crowe as an impoverished boxer in the 1930's.

It was critically acclaimed, pulling nominations for three Oscars and two Golden Globes.
