Renowned beatboxer Hachey the Mouthpeace and the Hamilton Philharmonic Brass Quintet are reprising their standout Supercrawlperformance this Thursday at Baltimore House.

Its an unusual collaboration but a ridiculously fun one. Jason Hachey is a beatboxer with undeniable prowess, able to coax a wide range of sounds out of just his lips, throat and microphone.

The HPO Brass Quintet, by contrast, is a respected orchestra ensemble but one that flexes considerable chops for collaboration and innovation.

At Supercrawl, the two came together for a mashup of genres that included classical pieces with pumping, beatboxed rhythms, and wild renditions of pop tunes by Radiohead and Stevie Wonder. They drew one of the biggest crowds of the weekend to the stage by Dr. Disc on Wilson Street one that grew and grew as their set went on.

Hachey told CBC Hamilton hes pumped up about the challenge playing with a brass group brings especially considering they managed to cram in all of two hours rehearsal time.

Its challenging in the sense of mashing together two genres from each end of the musical spectrum, Hachey said. But I love that challenge.

The HPO Brass Quintet will perform multiple sets throughout the night featuring classical brass repertoire alongside cross-genre, experimental works with Hachey.

Doors for the show open at 5:30 p.m. at Baltimore House on King William, and music starts at 6 p.m. with performances throughout the night.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the HPO box office at 906-526-7756, online at hpo.org or baltimorehouse.ca, or in person at Dr. Disc at 29 Wilson St. Tickets are also available at the door for $20. One drink ticket is included with cover.
