Beware of fake donation drive, CMHA says

The Canadian Mental Health Association is warning Hamilton residents of a scam where someone is posing as a volunteer looking for donations.

The Canadian Mental Health Association is warning Hamilton residents of a scam where someone is posing as a volunteer looking for donations.

According to the CMHA, a local branch has been getting calls about someone going door to door in at least one Mountain neighbourhood and falselyidentifying themselves as affiliated with the association.

That person then asks for contributions as well as credit card and banking info, CMHA says.

"CMHA Hamilton does not seek donations in such a way and people who come to your residence making these requests are not doing so on our behalf," said Marilyn Jewell, executive director of CMHA Hamilton in a statement.

The association facedwith this problem last fall aswell, when there were similar solicitations in the Hamilton area.

The CMHA has alerted police about the current scam.
