Hamilton police arrest alleged wigged bandits

A Burlington man and a Freelton woman face charges in connection with two robberies in Hamilton.

Hamilton police say they have arrested Hamilton's wigged bandits, a couple believed to have robbed two shops while wearing wigs.

A 43-year-old Burlington man and 21-year-old Freeltonwoman face charges in connection with two robberies in Hamilton.

On Tuesday, police released photos from surveillance footage showing images of the people suspected in the crimes.

On Feb.8, a couple walked into a Subway sandwich shop on Highway 5 in Waterdown, sprayed the female clerk with an unknown spray and cleaned the cash out of the till, police say.

Both wore wigs and gloves.

Two days later, a couple walked into a Love Shop adult novelty store on Fennell Avenue West around 9 p.m. wearing the same wigs as seen in the Subway incident.

After the suspects milled around the store, the clerk was pepper sprayed and locked in the back room, police say. The pair grabbed some cash and fled.

Police charged both the accused with two counts each of robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit a crime and administering a noxious substance.The malealso faces a charge of breach of probation.

Investigators thank members of the public with their help in the investigation.
