Nuddel unfortunately became the latest example of an alarming statistic uncovered by new research from the Social Planning and Research Council thatshows Hamilton is one of the provinces most dangerous cities for cyclists and pedestrians. That is the subject of this week's live chat, Thursday at noon.

Hamilton pedestrians are as much as 42 per cent more likely to be hit by a car compared to the Ontario rate. Cyclists are 81 per cent more likely.

'It kind of explains why we have a lower rate of cyclist commuters in Hamilton, said the reports author, Sara Mayo, planner at the SPRC.

Mayos report comesas the city unveils a newpedestrian mobility plan, a hefty 244-page document two-years in the making, that aims to make the city's streets safer for people not in cars. Itrecommends wider sidewalks, buffers between sidewalk and streets and more visible pedestrian crossings as.
