McMaster songbook decision sparks social media firestorm

McMaster University's decision to suspend the Redsuits, a campus spirit organization made up of engineering students, over a songbook containing vulgar chants has sparked a flurry of reaction on social media.

McMaster University's decision to suspend the Redsuits, a campus spirit organization made up of engineering students, over a songbook containing vulgar chants has sparked a flurry of reaction on social media.

University officials announced on Thursday that the school is suspending the group's activities pending an investigationinto the cheers the book contains, which include mentionsofrape, murder, incest andbestiality as well as various misogynistic, homophobic and anti-Semitic references.

Scores of commentson Twitter slammed the songbook and lauded the university for its decision. Others said McMaster'ssteps were too strong and that the content of the chants shouldn't be taken so seriously.
