Pedestrian dies after collision on Hamilton Mountain

A 66-year-old Hamilton man is dead after he was struck by a car on the Hamilton Mountain.

A 66-year-old Hamilton man is dead after he was struck by a car on the Hamilton Mountain.

At around 8 p.m. on Friday, a pedestrian slipped and fell while crossing the street just westof the intersection ofRymal Road East and Upper Centennial, said Staff Sgt. Jack Langhorn of the Hamilton police.

"It looks like he was standing on the centre median," he said. "He was standing on the median and slippedoff that and fell into the roadway."

Suddenly, he said, a four-door Mazda sedan driven by a 82-year-old man struck the pedestrian.

Paramedics rushed the man to hospital with massive injuries, but he died hours later, Langhorn said.

The driver was not injured.

No charges have been laid in the fatal crash, but the Hamilton polices collision reconstruction unit is still probing the incident.

Langhorn said he wasn'table to confirm whether the death is the city's first pedestrian fatality of2014.
