Police investigating 2 central Hamilton shootings Sunday

Gunfire left bullet holes, abandoned shell casings and damage to a car and a business on Main Street East and East Ave. on Sunday evening. It was the second apparent shooting in 24 hours in the neighbourhood.

Gunfire left bullet holes, abandoned shell casingsand damage to a car and a business nearMain St. East and East Ave. in Hamilton around 6 p.m.Sunday evening.

Hamilton Police Service Staff Sgt. Michael Spencer said there were two male shooters involved. No one was injured, he said.No one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

It was the second apparent shootingin the neighbourhood in 24 hours.A few blocks away, police received reports before 3 a.m. Sunday of gunshots near King and Ashley Streets. When they arrived on scene they found that one bullet had struck a building. No one was injured there, either, Spencer said.

At Main and East, police forensic investigators brought dogs to the scene andtaped off large areas and roads while they searched for evidence. A stray bullet had gone through the glass atMarzPaint Warehouse, and there was also bullet damage toa nearby Cadillac.

Twitter user @2blinns_2posted photosof streets blocked off and police searching the area with what appears to be a metal detector.

Criminal investigators are piecing together details on both incidents, Spencer said. Nothing so far in the investigation indicates any relation to the shooting in Stoney Creek last week, Spencer said.
