Woman pulled to safety at Albion Falls rope rescue

Hamilton emergency crews were called to Albion Falls for yet another rope rescue Wednesday.

The call came in around 4:07 p.m., said Hamilton fire spokesperson Steve McArthur. Firefighters and paramedics proceeded down the trail area, and found a woman who had been hiking, injured at the bottom of the falls.

The woman was stabilized, McArthur said, but she couldn't walk out on her own.

"A rope rescue was then initialized due to the terrain and patient location," he said.

Two firefighters got the woman into a basket, and hoisted her up to the top of the lookout area of the waterfall.

She was then taken to hospital, McArthur said.

It isn't yet clear if the woman was hiking in an approved trail area or not.

The city has erected fencing and signs at Albion Falls in recent months in efforts to curb injuries and deaths at the popular attraction.

Bylaw officers have also started ticketing people who wander off from approved trail areas.

A city spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions about if the woman was ticketed or not.
