Most new school-related COVID-19 cases in Hamilton deemed low risk

Of the seven new COVID-19 cases in Hamilton students and school staff on Wednesday and Thursday, only a few posed a risk to others in schools.

Another personatSt. Mark Catholic Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19 since an outbreak was declared a week ago.

Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board said the staff member was last in school on Friday, Nov. 27, which is two weeks ago.

"Any students who are required to self-isolate will be contacted directly by Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS). Persons who test positive for COVID-19 may not return to school until they are cleared by HPHS," read a letter to families.

Public health indicates there has been one staff and one student case of COVID-19 at the school since the outbreak started on Dec. 4. Two classes are closed.

There are two newCOVID-19 cases and two classes closed atSt. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School, but there isn't an outbreak, according to the board.

Two students tested positive, one on Thursday and one on Wednesday. The student who tested positive yesterday was last in school on Tuesday, Dec. 1, while the other student was last in school on Thursday, Nov. 26.

1 new public school case with with close contacts

Hamilton's public school board reported four cases on Wednesday and six on Thursday, but only one of them may have posed a risk to students and staff.

An employee at Memorial City Elementary School tested positive. It's unclear when the person was last at work.

"School administrators have notified all impacted families and staff members who are identified as a close contact. The students and staff members associated with the confirmed case will self-isolate for 14 days. HPHS will connect with close contacts as part of their contact tracing process," read a letter to families.
