6 confirmed school-related COVID-19 cases in Hamilton

Six more confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in students and staff inHamilton schools.

One of them is a student at St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School community, which is managing an outbreak.

Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board said the student was last in school on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

"This new case is from the isolating cohort and is connected to the school outbreak," read a letter to families from school principalLinda Spadafora.

"Any students, staff or cohorts that are required to quarantine will be notified immediately by the school and will be contacted by Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) within the next two days."

The other three cases at the school have included a staff member, a third-party worker, and a student. Two classrooms are closed.

There are also three other outbreaks in Hamilton. Those include:

• St. AnnCatholic Elementary School with three cases and two closed classrooms.
• St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School with nine cases and a closed school.
• A.M. Cunningham Elementary School with two cases.

Besides the St. Eugene case, Hamiltonsaw five other confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School is dealing with a case involving a student last in school on Feb. 22. The school also has its firstprobable student case.

"A probable case is a person who has been isolating as a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case and has since developed symptoms of COVID-19," reads a letter to families from school principalMichaelLawlor.

ASt. Joseph Catholic Elementary School staff member last in school on Feb. 23 tested positive. So did aSt. John Henry Newman student, but they had no close contacts at school.

Hamilton's public school board has two new COVID-19 cases, but only one of them led to the possible exposure of students and staff.

ASir Isaac Brock Elementary School student tested positive for the virus.

"School administrators will contact any students or staff identified as close contacts, who will self-isolate for 14 days," read a message from Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.
