Sewing needle, razor blade reportedly found inside Halloween candy in Brantford

Brantford police say they received one report each report of Halloween candy with a needle and a razor blade inside.

The candy was picked up in the Brier Park and Eagle Place areas

Brantford police saythey have now received tworeports of tainted Halloween candy one appearing to contain a sewing needle, the other a razor blade.

The piece of Macintosh candy was picked up near theBrier Park area.

A sewing needle was inside the candy.

The razor blade was reportedly found in a chocolate bar.

The citizen who found it told police they weretrick-or-treating in Eagle Place.

Robin Matthews-Osmond, a corporate communications manager with local police, called the report was "disturbing."

"Reports of this nature are disturbing to receive at any point, but even more so this Halloween as children and families are trying their best to celebrate and enjoy the occasion responsibly amid the COVID-19 pandemic."

Police hope everyone will be vigilant of any candy collected during Halloween.

"The Brantford Police Service is asking that the community be made aware of this incident and are reminding parents and caregivers to thoroughly check candy collected from trick-or-treating prior to consumption, and discard any items which are open and appear suspicious," reads a release from officers.
