Student, 15, stabbed near Saltfleet High School during 'targeted' street robbery: police

Police said officers have arrested a16-year-old, after a student was transported to hospital with stab wounds Wednesday. The student is in serious but stable condition, according to police.

A 15-year-old student was stabbed nearSaltfleetDistrict High School on Wednesday,Hamilton police say.

Police spokesperson Jackie Penman told CBC Hamiltonthe teenager was stabbed during a "targeted" streetrobbery near the Stoney Creek school shortly after 2:30 p.m.

"The student was transported to hospital with stab wounds and is in serious but stable condition," Penman wrote in an email.

She said the investigation is ongoing.

Penman said in an email Wednesday evening officers arrested a16-year-old. More details will be released on Thursday, she added.

In a letter to families, school principalGlenn Cookealso said police made an arrest and aren't looking for any other suspects.

"As a school community, we extend our thoughts to the student and their family and wish them strength in their recovery," read the letter.

The letter said families can access the school board's online tips for supporting people after distressing events and also said social workers will be at school for students who need support.
