Waterdown TD closed, staff self-isolating after employee tests positive for COVID-19

TD has confirmed an employee at its Waterdown branch, located in a plaza near the corner of Hamilton Street North and Dundas Street East, has tested positive for COVID-19. (Google Maps)

The TD bank branch in Waterdown is closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Carla Hindman, a manager with TD's corporate and public affairs, confirmed the positive test in an email to CBC.

"We are following all guidance from public health authorities, including deep cleaning, and are taking other actions that are part of our business continuity and preparedness efforts," she wrote."We are working with public health, and they will be directly contacting any customers who they believe could be at risk."

TD's statement did not say when the employee tested positive. It also did not provide any details on when or how customers may have been exposed. Hindman did say "the branch was closed as soon as we were made aware of the positive test result on Sunday, March 15."

It's not clear wherethe case, which was first reported by the Flamborough Review, fits in with the 15 cases public health confirmed in the city as of Tuesday.

Among them is Hamilton's first community transmission case, meaning one person's contraction of the new coronavirus could not be linked to recent travel.

"What it indicates is it is out in the community," said Dr. Elizabeth Richardson, Hamilton's medical officer of health,duringa media briefing.

TD says its Waterdown branch will remain closed for the rest of the week. Staff will reassess whether or not to open doors next week.

"Our colleagues at our Waterdown branch will be in self-isolation for a two-week period and we are providing support to them to help them through this," said Hindman, adding customers can learn more about how TD is responding to COVID-19 on its website.

In the meantime,Hindmansaid customers can reach the bank by phone or use online banking.
