Hiker suffers cut, shoulder injury after 12-metre tumble at Webster Falls

Fire officials say a hiker escaped with a cut and a shoulder injury after falling an estimated 12 metres at Webster Falls.

Fire officials say a hiker escaped with a cut and a shoulder injury after falling an estimated 12 metres at Webster Falls.

Emergency crews were called to theSpencer Gorge Conservation Area Saturdayfollowing reports a man hiking with a small group had fallen, according to the Hamilton Fire Department.

The man suffered "a minor laceration and a shoulder injury," stated an email from the department.

He was located with the help of police and members of the rope rescue team rappelled down to administer first aid.

A rope system was set up and the man was hauled to safety in a basket, says the department.

He was then handed over to the paramedics. Fire officials say bylaw officers were also asked to attend at the scene.

A visitor alert on the Hamilton Conservation Authority's website warns all waterfall and escarpment areas are closed to visitors and anyone parked in residential areas nearbywill face a $250 ticket.
