Welland man who coached minor hockey charged with child pornography offences, police say

A 49-year-old man from Welland who coached minor hockey has been arrested on child porn charges, Niagara police say.

According to Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), the man was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation that started in September.

Detectives in the Niagara Regional Police Service ICE Unit and Technological Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a private residence in Welland and seized numerous devices capable of storing electronic data, police said in a news release.

Police say the accused was located at the residence and arrested for possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

Police say the accused is actively involved in coaching minor hockey in the Niagara Region, and as detectives continue to investigate, they are asking anyone with information to contact them.

The accused has been released on bail, police say.
