An update on BC's overdose emergency was released this week.

The rate of overdose deaths went down slightly last month, but the overall numbers remain high.

Across the province, to the end of August, 488 people have died this year from illicit drug use.

That's up 61 per cent from last year.

In Kamloops one more person died in August, for a total of 23 this year (last year the number was seven).

Terry Lake is B.C.'s Health Minister and MLA for Kamloops North Thompson.
