Brampton teen charged in connection with Ezra Avenue furniture fire

A 17-year-old from Brampton is facing charges in connection witha furniture fireduring a street party on Ezra Avenue last week, police say.

Officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service arrested the teenagerin Waterloo on Sept. 9.

Police would not confirm whether or not the suspect is a student.

The teenager has been charged with one count of arson and one count of mischief under $5,000.

He is set to appear in court on October 21.

The fire was set during a partythe evening of Sept. 2, andwas extinguished by the Waterloo Fire Department. There were no reported injuries.

The day after the party,officials with Wilfrid Laurier University released a statement condemning the student gathering.

Const. Andre Johnson saidpolice are still searching for others who were involved.

"The potential for harm or danger during this incident was great. We are continuing to investigate to find and locate all those who were responsible for this fire," said Const. Johnson.
