About 220 residents have signed a petition supporting the bridge and favour placingitbetween Concession Sreet and Queen's Square in downtown Galt.

Mayor Doug Craigfirst proposed the ideato get more residents down to the riverduring his State of the City address last May.

"You know people came here because of the river system we have here, and they set up their mills on the river," said Craig. "And the river has been a place of recreation for boating, for ice skating. It has been an integral part of the whole Cambridge community and the former communities."

The mayor sayshe's planning on budgeting bridge money for 2016, and estimates it will cost about $1 million to build.
