Waterloo Regional Police seized this purple substance, suspected to contain fentanyl, on March 22. It's unclear if the carfentanil seized Thursday evening is the same kind. Carfentanil has also been found in the region in pill form and powered. (Supplied/Waterloo Regional Police Service)

Police seized suspected carfentanil, fentanyl and meth along with a loaded sawed-off rifle while executing a search warrant at a motel on Weber Street in Kitchener Thursday evening.

As well, officers seized a replica assault rifle, a hunting rifle as well as marijuana and prescription medication.

The search warrant was executed around 5:30 p.m.

Three men, age29, 31 and 42, and two women, age 20 and 22, all from Kitchener face a number of drug and weapons charges.

Police did not give a description of the carfentanilfound. The Waterloo Region Integrated Drugs Strategy issued an overdose alert last month after a purple, playdough-like drug tested positive for carfentanil. It was the first time the powerful opioid had been found in that form in the region. Carfentanil has also been found in powdered form and in pills.
