Cat shot in face with pellet gun, humane society seeks help

The Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society are investigating a suspected case of animal cruelty after abrown tabby cat was shot in the face and torso with a pellet gun.

On December 9, a member of the public found the cat on Shantz Station Rd. in Breslau and took it to local vet for an exam. The vet found pellets in the cat, and then called the humane society. Overall, the cat had seven pellets embedded it its face and two in its body.

"It's very upsetting, there's a number of us who have been here a lot of years and we've seen a lot of things and it never ceases to shock, even after all this time, that someone could something like this to an animal," said Kathy Innocente, the director of operations for the humane society.

The cat came to the humane society on Fridayand staff called him Barin, a Teutonic name which Innocente says means "noble fighter."

"He had surgery this morning, so we did manage to remove five of the seven pellets in his face, so two are remaining in, because they are in there quite deep," said Innocente on Tuesday."He's doing great and the other remaining pellets will just have to be monitored."

Currently the cat is recovering under the care of the humane society's animal hospital.

"He's doing great, he's such a sweetheart, he's been purring since he got here, believe it or not," she said.

Innocente said the incident could be considered an offence under the Criminal Code.A humane society inspector is investigatingthe case.
