More charges laid at Trinity Bible Chapel in Waterloo

Multiple people have been charged by regional bylaw officers following an in-person gathering at the Trinity Bible Chapel on Lobsinger Line in Waterloo.

Police and regional bylaw officials responded to the gatheringheld Sunday, Jan. 3.

Six people as well as the church corporation itself have been charged for hosting a gathering that violated the Reopening Ontario Act. Two people were also charged with attending a gathering of more than 10 people. All in all, nine charges were laid.

Waterloo regional police previously laid charges against members of the church following a gathering held on Sunday, Dec. 27.

The church posted a news release on New Year's Eve responding to the charges laid Dec. 27.

"We are peaceful family men seeking to pastorally care for our families and our church in sincere obedience to God. We are not criminals," the statement said in part.

The church did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

Someone who hosts a gathering contrary to the Reopening Ontario Act could face a fine of up to $100,000. A corporation could face a fine of up to $10 million.
