Chicopee's season opening delayed due to recent warm weather

Chicopee's 2018-2019 season opening has been delayed due to the recent warm temperatures in the region and project it will open on Dec. 27.

If you were hoping to make it out to Chicopee this weekend, you may have to wait a few more days.

Chicopee's2018-2019 season was projected to kick off Dec. 22, but wasdelayed due to the recent warm weather, which saw temperatures above the freezing mark for several days.

Chicopeenow hopes to open itsseasonon Dec. 27, weather permitting,LizWadeson, director of guest experience atChicopeetold CBC News.

She said staff were making snow this weekend, but had to stop Sunday morning because of the temperature.

Wadeson explained the recipe to make snow at the resort includes pressurized air and water mixed with temperaturesat -1 C or colder, ideally.

"We like to make snow at -1 C and colder...-3 C temperature is best," she said.

Temperatures look like they will fall under -1 C over the next few days, according to Environment Canada and Wadesonsays staff will be ready.

"As soon as that temperature starts to drop, we'll get the guns back on with our team and get going to hopefully make that projected date of December27th," she said.
