Conservative John Nater re-elected in Perth-Wellington

Conservative incumbent John Nater was re-electedin Perth-Wellington, with about 45 per cent of the popular vote.

Conservative incumbent John Nater wasre-electedin Perth-Wellington, with about 46per cent of the popular vote.

The Liberal's Pirie Mitchellcame in second with about 27per cent,NDP's Geoff Krauterhad about 14per cent of the popular vote, Green Party candidate Collan Simmons captured nine per cent, Roger Fuhr of the People's Party won 1.7 per cent and Irma DeVries of the Christian Heritage Party had 1.3per cent.

Riding

Perth-Wellington is largely a rural riding that spans all the way from St. Mary's through Stratford and up to Mount Forest.The number of voters totals 83,023, according to Elections Canada.

Conservative John Naterwon the election in 2015with 43 per cent of the vote over Liberal Stephen McCotter, who had 37.5 per cent of the vote. Before 2015, the seat was held by Conservative Gary Schellenberger.

Before entering federal politics in 2015, Nater worked as a lecturer at King's University College and served on West Perth Municipal Council.

In response to a CBC Kitchener-Waterloocandidates survey, Nater said trust is the most important issue to people in his riding.

"To earn voters' trust, I will continue doing what I have always done over the last four years: serving people to the best of my ability," Nater said.
