New COVID-19 death reported in Waterloo region

A man over the age of 80 has died of COVID-19, Region of Waterloo Public Health reported Friday. That brings the total number of local deaths connected to the novel coronavirus to 117.

No current outbreaks at long-term care or retirement homes, public health says

A man over the age of 80has died from COVID-19, Region of Waterloo Public Health reported Friday.

That brings the total number of deaths in the region from the novel coronavirus to 117.

Of those who died, 95 lived in long-term care or retirement homes. The latest death was not related to an outbreak at a home.

The number of positive cases in the region since March rose by two on Friday from Thursday to 1,333. More than 40,000 tests have been done, and 87 per cent of cases have been marked as resolved.

There are currently no active outbreaks at long-term care or retirement homes in the region.
