Public health declares some COVID-19 outbreaks over at region's schools

Waterloo Region Public Health has declared over, many of the COVID-19 outbreaks in 19 of the region's schools. A spokesperson for the Waterloo District School Board said nine outbreaks they reported Mondaywere from cases before the holidays.

UPDATE: Several school outbreaks discovered over the holidays but not reported until after the holiday weekend, were declared over on Wednesday,Dec. 29. These are:

  • Jacob HespelerSecondary School.
  • St. David Catholic Secondary School.
  • St. Teresa ofCalcutta Elementary School.
  • Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School.
  • St. Elizabeth Catholic Secondary School.
  • Hillcrest Public School.
  • St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School.

Waterloo Region Public Health has declared COVID-19 outbreaks in 19 schools in the region. A spokesperson for the Waterloo District School Board said nine outbreaks they reported Monday were from cases before the holidays.

WRDSBupdated itswebsite Monday, saying those nine cases were related to specific cohorts andare not school-wide outbreaks.

A spokesperson for the board told CBC News "the outbreaks that we reported Mondaywere from cases before the holidays, when schools wereopen."

St. Teresa ofCalcutta Elementary School:

  • Two cases.

A private school, ID#3 grade level unreported:

  • Three cases.

A private school, ID#4 grade level unreported:

  • Two cases.

St. Mary's High School:

  • Multiple cohorts.
  • Six cases.

Resurrection Secondary School:

  • Three cases.

Monday's reported outbreaks from WRDSB

Southwood Secondary School:

  • The outbreaks are linked to threeclass cohorts at the school and twobus routes.
  • Public health said theirinvestigation determined that a student case previously reportedwaslinked to an earlier case in the same student cohort.

ChicopeeHills Public School:

  • Eight cases. WRDSB said the outbreak is related to twoclass cohorts at the school.
  • Public health said a student case previously reportedis linked to an earlier case in the same student cohort.

Grand River CollegiateInstitute:

  • Two cases. The outbreak islinked to aclass cohort at the school, according to WRDSB.
  • Public said a second case, not previously reported, is linked to an earlier case in the same student cohort.

  • Two cases. The outbreak at Bluevale Collegiate Institute is in a bus route cohort at the school, WRDSB said.
  • Public health said a student case previously reported is linked to an earlier case in the same student cohort.

Sandhills Public School:

  • Two cases. WRDSB said the outbreak at the school is linked to aclass cohort.
  • Astudent case previously reportedis linked to an earlier case in the same student cohort, public health said.

  • Multiple cohorts.
  • Ten cases.

Centennial Public School:

  • Two cases.

John Sweeney School:

  • Two cases.

Breslau Public School:

  • Two cases.

Jean Steckle Public School:

  • Seven cases.

A private school, ID#2 no other details released:

  • Multiple cohorts.
  • Four cases.
