Mischief charges against a Kitchener woman, who falsely reported that someone threw paint at her in 2018, have been stayedafter she entered into a peace bond during a hearing earlier this month.

The woman must stay out of trouble for the next year and cannot call police except in a legitimate emergency. She has also made restitution to Waterloo regional police.

The woman, a local pro-choice advocate, had alleged that a man threw a bucket of red paint at her face outside a Tim Hortons on Charles and Borden, and yelled "murderer" before walking away.

Police had investigated the incident as a hate crime but later said they determined the incident never took place.

The court heard earlier this month that she had also made 19 calls to police, reporting various things ranging from assault to sexual assault and break and enter.

The judge told the woman it was very important that she learns from the experience and does not find herself in court again.

If the woman reoffends, the proceedings against her will resume, the crown attorney said.
