A 20-year-old Stratford woman is facing several drug-related charges after she was arrested for outstanding warrants as police found what they think might be fentanyl and a dagger-like knife.

When officers arrested the woman in Kitchener on Fridaythey discovered she was carrying methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl, marijuana, cannabis resin, cash, an edged weapon and drug paraphernalia, police said.

The woman is facing several charges, including:two counts of drug possession for the purpose fo trafficking, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of break of recognizance and three counts of breach of probation.

The arrest comes after Waterloo Regional Police made five arrests last week and seized suspected fentanyl from homes in Kitchener and Cambridge.

Fentanyl is a growing problem in Waterloo region. A report by the force earlier this year found seizures of the powerful opioid by front line police officers grew from just over two grams in 2015 to 624 grams last year.
