Gasoline prices spike in Waterloo region

The price of a litre of regular gas has jumped almost a dime per litre in Waterloo region ahead of the holiday long weekend.

The price of a litre of regular gas has jumped almost a dime per litre around Waterloo region and Wellington County ahead of the Labour Day long weekend.

On Thursday,the price at the pump reported by gasbuddy.com was about$1.17 per litre for regular gas, up from $1.08 on Monday. That was higher than the average national price of $1.14/L.

Analysts had predicted a rise because ofthe long weekend holiday, but ongoing shutdowns at U.S. Gulf Coast operations due to Hurricane Harvey are alsohaving an impact on prices.

Fuel prices in Ontario could shoot up as much as 15 cents per litreby Saturday, analysts predicted.

Lowest prices in the area were charted in the $1.10/L range Thursday afternoon.
