GRCA upgrades to flood warning for all of Grand River watershed

Warm weather and heavy rainfall expected to affect the Grand River watershed Monday through Wednesday. Rainfall totals of 40 to 50 millimetres are expected across the watershed.

Environment Canada also issued a special weather statement saying region could get 10 to 20 mm of rain

The Grand River ConservationAuthority has upgraded a flood warning for parts of the Grand River watershed, to a flood warning forthe entire watershed.

GRCA issued aflood warning to a number of townships, including Woolwich, Wilmot and the City of Cambridge.

In a special weather statement from Environment Canada, 10 to 20 millimetresof rain could fall by Tuesday along with record-breaking temperatures, typically seen in April, which is expected to cause significant runoff into the river system.

GRCA said the currentweather system is expected to affect the watershed Monday through Wednesday asan additional 5 to 10 millimetresof rain is expected to fall Wednesday.

"Rainfall totals of 40-50 millimetresare expected across the watershed," GRCAsaid in a release.

"Ice jams currently in place in the Grand River through the City of Kitchener, the City of Cambridge, City of Brantford and community of Cayuga have a high potential of causing additional flooding."

As a result,GRCAhas issued a flood warning townships and cities:

  • Town of Grand Valley:Waldemar
  • Township of Mapleton: Drayton
  • Township of Woolwich: St. Jacobs
  • City of Cambridge
  • Township of Wilmot: New Hamburg and Ayr
  • City of Brantford
  • Town of Cayuga
  • Town of Dunnville: Port Maitland
