Swastikas painted on election signs in Guelph

Swastikas were painted on five election signs in Guelph's north end overnight from Monday to Tuesday, police say.

The signs were located in the area of Edinburgh Road and Woodlawn Road.

Sgt. JasonGuardierosaid it appeared some signs for the Christian Heritage Party candidate were the ones targeted by the vandals.

He said police received a report from both the candidate, Gordon Truscott, and the public about the signs being defaced.

"These types of investigations, we're going take it very seriously," Guardiero said, noting the service's hate crime co-ordinator will be tasked with looking into the case further.

"Definitely if you have any information, you can contact the Guelph police and we'll follow up on any leads we have in regards to finding who the perpetrators are of this," he said."If there is people who are doing it and they are being seen by witnesses, absolutely call us and we'll do our best to get there and investigate it further."

This is the first report of vandalism to signs in Guelph,Guardierosaid.

Signs stolen in Waterloo region, Wellington County

Ontario Provincial Police in Wellington County reported 20 large election signs havebeen reported stolen from residential properties throughout the Township of Wellington North.

Police confirmed the signs were all from the same political party, but did not say which one.

In Waterloo region, police have received two reports of signs being stolen. Both cases happenedon Hespeler Road in Cambridge one on Sept. 16 and one on Sept. 30.
