Dead man found inside Guelph hotel room

Police were called to the Holiday Inn Express in the north end of the city early Tuesday morning after reports a man in a third-floor room was causing extensive damage.

Police discovered the body of a 25-year-old man inside a hotel in Guelph'snorth end early Tuesday morning after staff called about a guest causing extensive damage to a room.

At about 2 a.m., an employee at the Holiday Inn Express on Silvercreek Parkway North in Guelph called police about noise inside a room.

Officers were "responding to a male who had rented a room on the third floor of this hotel, and was causing extensive damage," a Guelph Police release said.

The province's Special Investigations Unit, whichis now investigating, said theforce's tactical unit went to the hotel and officers entered the room about two hours later, close to 4 a.m.

Officers discovered the man dead in the room.

The man has been identified by the SIU as Zachary Gallant, 25, of Guelph.

Four SIU investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to this case.

The SIU invokes its mandate where there are cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Police have not identified the man or said how he died.

This is not the first death at a north end Guelph hotel this year.

On March 2,an employee of the Comfort Inn on Silvercreek Parkway was fatally shot.Aly Sunderani,35, was the hotel general manager. He was discoverednear the front entrance with gunshot wounds.Sunderani was rushed to Guelph General Hospital with life-threatening injuries but died.
