Three people have died and several overdoses have been reported over the past three days in Guelph, police say.

The three deaths "are believed to possibly be due to a substance overdose," police said Wednesday.

They warned "strong substances" are circulating in the community.

People who use drugs are reminded that street drugs "may be stronger and/or contain substances different than what you're used to," police said.

The Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy (WGDS) offers advice on how to prevent an overdose:

  • Carrynaloxone.
  • Don't use drugsalone.
  • Start low and go slow, meaning with any new purchase, use a third of what a person would consider a normal dose to begin.
  • Use the Consumption and Treatment Services site at Guelph's Community Health Centre, which is located at 176 Wyndham St. N.
