Guelph Police canine General sniffs out three arrests in 73 hours
General has tracked suspects in Cambridge and Guelph
It has been a busy week for General, a member of Guelph Police's K9 unit.
The police dog has had a helping paw in three arrests in 73 hours.
The most recent one was in the early morning hours of Thursday. General and its handler, Const. Greg MacArthur, helped Waterloo Regional Police track down a break and enter suspect in Cambridge.
Police said around 4:30 a.m., a Cambridge home owner confronted a man who had broken into a home. The man fled on foot and General tracked the suspect for more than a kilometre and located him hiding in a shed.
The 18-year-old Cambridge man is also linked to two other break and enters in the area and has been charged with three counts of break and enter.
Two other suspects nabbed
General was also used to track a suspect on Tuesday morning after a homeowner on Glenburnie Drive in Guelph watched a man break into his vehicle at 6:30 a.m. The dog tracked the suspect to Hadati Road and several stolen items were discovered in the area.
The 27-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and break and enter. He was also charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, as well as several Highway Traffic Act charges in relation to a hit and run on Sept. 27, when a car hit a house.
General was also called after a hit and run in Cambridge at 3:04 a.m. on Monday. General tracked the driver and located him hiding in a bush area. While being arrested, the 33-year-old Kitchener man allegedly assaulted a police officer.
The suspect has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to remain, driving while suspended, possession of stolen property and assaulting police.
