Former director of cancer support centre convicted of child pornography charges

The former head of the HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre pleaded guilty to possessing and making child pornography.

Gerard Seguin, a 53-year-old man who was the former executive director of HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre, has pleaded guilty to three counts ofchild pornography.

On Monday afternoon, Seguin was convicted for possessing child pornography, making child pornography and committing an offence to a minor, under subsection 163.1 of the Criminal Code.

HopeSpring Cancer SupportCentre refused to comment on the "ongoing legal matters."

In a statement, the centre's board of directors said "We can affirm thatHopeSpringis a safe space for our community.We further affirm our commitment toHopeSpringCancer Support Centre, operating with the highest standards of ethicalbehaviourin delivering our mission of community-based cancer care support."

Seguin'ssentencing date is set for Oct. 15.
