Injection sites for Cambridge, Kitchener focus of public input sessions

Waterloo Region plans to hold two public meetings in March and April as it continues to investigate the possibility of hosting one or more supervised injection sites.

Where, when and "if" are the focus of public input sought by the Region of Waterloo as officials look for approaches to addressthe epidemic of opioid abuse and overdose.

Waterloo Region plans to hold two public meetings in March and April as it continues to investigate the possibility of hosting one or more supervised injection sites.

The region's public health department recently completed a feasibility study, which was based on interviews withpeople who use drugs, interviews with service providers, focus group discussionsand the results of anonline survey.

The study indicated that more than one supervised injection site was preferred, and recommended downtown Kitchener and south Cambridge as possible locations.

The study also mention a preference for athird mobile site to address needs in otherunder-servedareas.

The region wants to know what residents thinkof its plan and has arranged publicmeetingsfor March and April.
