The K-W Titans have announced Serge Langis will no longer be behind the bench and player Cavell Johnson is the team's new head coach.

The Titans currently have a regular season record of 5-22.

Titans owner Leon Martin said the move to replace Langis is to ensure the team "can continue to grow and succeed."

"When Serge was hired, he was right for our team and system at that time, but as we look ahead to grow and improve, we need a fresh approach," Martin said in a release Sunday announcing the move.

Johnson played for the Titans until last week, when he resigned as a player.

He was named the National Basketball League Canada all-star in 2014 and is a well-respected defender, Martin said.

"Cavell has incredible experience from his years playing at a professional level and is a proven leader," Martin said.

Johnson thanked the team for having faith in him.

"I hope to translate my leadership as a teammate and make an impact as a coach," he said.

Johnson's first game as coach is Tuesday when the team travels to Halifax to take on the Hurricanes as part of a four-game east coast road trip.
