COVID-19 outbreak declared at Kitchener high school

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School. It comes after a second case of the virus was found at the school.

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School.

A staff member hastested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcementposted to the high school's website.

A student at the schooltested positive for the virusearlier this week. The two individuals are part of thesame cohort.

That classroom has been sent home, the school said, but no other classrooms are impacted at this time.

The school remains open.

"The [Waterloo Region District School Board]is working with Region of Waterloo Public Health to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in students, staff and the community," the school said in a statement.

The public school board has 12 cases in schools as of Friday. It includes two staff members and 10 students.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board has reported two cases in two separate schools. Both cases are in students.
