A prayer and solidarity vigil is being planned for Monday evening to show "love is stronger than fear," the Kitchener Masjid says.

The vigil, which will be held in front of Kitchener City Hall in Carl Zehr Square starting at 6 p.m., was announced by the mosque on Twitter Monday morning.

It comes after news six people were killed and 19others were injured in a shooting at a Quebec City mosque Sunday evening. Two suspects are in police custody following the shooting, which occurred during evening prayers.

Vigils also planned for Guelph, Stratford

The Muslim Society of Guelph has planned a vigil at 286 Water St., the Guelph Muslim Community Centre, for Monday evening.

It will begin at 6:30 p.m. The time was chosen "to coincide with the same evening prayers at which the attack happened," organizers said.

A group of residents have also planned a 15-minute vigil in Stratford for Monday night. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. outside Stratford City Hall. Those attending are asked to bring a source of light, such as a flashlight or candle.

"Your solidarity and support are very helpful for us in this tearful, heartbreaking, and worrying moments," the Stratford Mosque wrote on its Facebook page.
