Bryan Larkin elected president of national police chief organization

The CACP is a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of police, including lobbying various levels of government.

Larkin was elected at the association's annual meeting Monday.

Waterloo Region Police Service Chief Bryan Larkin has been elected president of the Canadian association of chiefs of police (CACP).

The CACP is a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of police, including lobbying various levels of government.

Larkinpreviously served as the president of the Ontario association of chiefs of policeand holds a number of positions at other provincial policing associations.

In a statement from CACP, Larkinacknowledged current difficulties in policing.

"I assume this role at a time when the public and the communities we serve are calling for police reform," he said.

"I welcome the opportunity to work with our committees, members, partners and other stakeholders to map out a path for change that creates an appropriate balance between the needs and concerns of the communities we serve and those of the members of our police agencies who deliver that service.

I am committed to help move the association's national strategic priorities forward and to encourage the implementation of tangible actions that lead to meaningful change."
