Battle between winter and spring will continue into April: Seglenieks

March's weather was pretty average in that there was nothing typical about it, says Frank Seglenieks of the University of Waterloo Weather Station.

March is often a battleground for winter and spring to duke it out, and in that way, last month was pretty on par with others, says Frank Seglenieks of the University of Waterloo Weather Station.

There was a cold start to the month. The first nine days were so cold, it brought the entire month 1.5 degrees below average, he said in his monthly weather report.

"If you take just those [nine] days in isolation, it was actually warmer than average," he said in an interview.

"If you just took a random day in March, you might say, 'Ah, it was actually pretty pleasant and it was actually above average.'"

There was also little precipitation for the first 29 days of the month, and it was set to become one of the driest Marches on record, the report said.

The last two days of the month saw 41.8 mm of the entire month's total of precipitation, which was 63.6 mm. That tipped precipitation to be just above average.

"It's more typical for March not to be on the average," he said. "The dryness in March would have been a story except for those last few days."

April, he said, will see the battle continue.

The warmtemperatures the region is experiencing this weekend will give way to cooler days, with the temperatures forecastto drop on Thursday and Friday.

"It looks like the seesaw is going to continue," he said.
