New Waterloo Regional police dog named Chase, thanks to Twitter

The newest canine addition to the Waterloo Regional Police Service now has an official name: Chase.

The newestcanine addition to the Waterloo Regional Police Service now has an official name:Chase.

The 16-month-old German Shepherd was named with the help of the public through a two-week Twitter campaign.

Chase got far and away the most "votes" or online impressionsof the three possible names, whileTitan trailed far behind in second place, withDougiein third.

Ten different schools across the region nominated the name. Each school will get a visit fromChase, a sixteen-month-old male German Shepherd, the dog's handlerand Chief Bryan Larkin. The public can meet Chaseduring the canine demonstrationon Saturday at the Waterloo Regional Police open house, at police headquarters on200 Maple Grove Road, inCambridge,

Police got 60 names suggestions from the public and local elementary schools.Names that didn't make the shortlist includeRadar, Flash, Rookie, Ranger, Jelly Bean, Drake, Justiceand Zeus.
