1 new COVID-19 death reported in Waterloo region

New numbers from Region of Waterloo Public Health show one new death of COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the total number of deaths in the region to 118.

A woman in her 80s has died from COVID-19, Region of Waterloo Public Health reported Monday. That brings the total number of novel coronavirus deaths in the region to 118. (CBC News)

Waterloo region saw one new COVID-19 death over the weekend, bringing the total number of deaths in the region to 118, according to new numbers fromRegion of Waterloo Public Health on Monday.

Officials with public health said in an email to CBC News that the most recent death was a woman in her 80swho contracted the virus through community spread.

Meanwhile, 48 cases are still considered activeand 88 per cent of COVID-19 cases in the region have been resolved, according to public health.

Public health says there are alsono outbreaks in long term care homes or retirement homes.

Also reported Monday:

  • 40,279 tests have been done in the region.
  • 11 people are in hospital.
  • 315 of people presumed or confirmed positive are health-care workers, making up 23per cent of cases.
